In theory only water vapor evaporates from the solution know as battery acid, so only need to add demineralized or distilled water back to upper level. Normally modern batteries don't use much water unless the weather is very warm and dry, the charging system is overcharging the battery or the battery is in need of replacing. I'd guess the later, 4 years is about normal for a cycle battery. Many go less than that. As of the last time I checked they still do not have a sealed gel cell battery for the Savage, but hopefully by the time I buy my next one. Early light research indicates the vent placment on the Savage battery is unique so it doesn't share a more cmmon number. Local battey place gave me one that had a fluid level indicater plug in a middle cell that he cut the wire off. Otherwise worked fine. Max
